Ingredients
For Salisbury Steak
– 1 lb ground beef (80% lean)
– 1/3 cup breadcrumbs (plain or seasoned)
– 1 small onion, finely chopped
– 1 clove garlic, minced
– 1 large egg, beaten
– 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
– 1 tablespoon ketchup
– 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
– 1 teaspoon dried thyme
– 1 teaspoon dried parsley
– 1/2 teaspoon salt
– 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
For Mushroom Gravy
– 2 cups sliced mushrooms (button or cremini)
– 2 tablespoons butter
– 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
– 2 cups beef broth
– 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
– Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, minced garlic, beaten egg, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, Dijon mustard, dried thyme, dried parsley, salt, and black pepper.
2. Mix everything together until well combined. Form the mixture into four oval-shaped patties, each about 1-inch thick.
3. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add a little oil and place the Salisbury steak patties in the pan. Cook for about 4-5 minutes per side or until they are nicely browned and cooked through. Remove the patties from the skillet and set them aside.
4. In the same skillet, add the sliced mushrooms and butter. Cook the mushrooms until they are tender and slightly browned, stirring occasionally.
5. Sprinkle the flour over the mushrooms and stir to coat them evenly. Cook for another minute to remove the raw flour taste.
6. Gradually pour in the beef broth while stirring continuously to avoid lumps. Add Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper to the gravy. Bring it to a simmer and cook until the gravy thickens, about 5-7 minutes.
7. Return the Salisbury steak patties to the skillet, coating them with the mushroom gravy. Simmer for a few more minutes to let the flavors meld together.
8. Once the Salisbury steaks are heated through and the gravy has reached the desired consistency, remove the skillet from the heat.
Serve the delicious Salisbury steak with mushroom gravy over cooked egg noodles, mashed potatoes, or rice. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired. This classic comfort food is sure to be a hit with your family and friends!
