Taking a road trip can be fun and spontaneous, but there are always a few things that should be done before embarking on any extra-long journeys. Here are some of my tips on how to get your car or truck road trip ready.
Check Your Vehicle for any Problems
There are several problems that can happen when you are out on the road, but if you take some of these steps, hopefully, you won’t run into any!
Before we leave on any trip, my husband checks all of the fluids in the car. He checks the Oil, Transmission Fluid, Power steering Fluid, Brake Fluid, and of course the Windshield Solvent.
Other things you can do are:
– Fill the Gas Tank
– Air up your Spare Tire
– Check to see if your lights are all working correctly
– Look at your wiper blades, and make sure they are in good shape. The last thing you want is to get stuck in a rainstorm with bad wiper blades.
Things to Bring on Your Trip
Here are a few things to pack or prepare before you head out on your trip.
Find your registration and Proof of Insurance before you go. You never know if you will need them or not, but just to be on the safe side- have them readily available. You will also need to access your registration if you have any sort of Rec Passes.
Keep an envelope of small bills, preferably just one-dollar bills in your glove box. 25, one-dollar bills would suffice. You will need these for Toll Roads. Never keep a large amount of cash in your vehicle.
Bring a trash bag, or small trash can for inside your vehicle while you are traveling. I prefer a small desk size trash can in the back seat on the floor. Then you can easily just dump the can each time you stop for fuel, and your vehicle won’t get messy.
The Non-Essentials
Blankets are a good option to bring also- obviously only for passengers. Sometimes I get a bit cold sitting in the car on trips. I would also suggest a paper map or atlas because you never know when your cell reception will be spotty (Don’t forget your car charger either!).
The final thing I always bring with me on road trips is a cooler filled with snacks and drinks. I don’t like to stop often on the road, so by bringing your own food and drinks not only will you save money, but you can also stay on the road longer!
What are the Best Cars to Road Trip in?
I’ve road tripped in many different vehicles, and though usually, we end up going in a Full-Size Sedan, The most comfortable trips I feel are always in SUV’s.
Your things are all easily accessible within the vehicle, but no one is complaining that they don’t have enough legroom. Most of them come with great entertainment features as well.
If you are considering traveling in your future, I would certainly check out a new Jeep Grand Cherokee. This is a great all-around vehicle, and perfect for taking your family on a road trip. If you are in the Georgia area, consider Palmer Dodge for your next vehicle purchase. They have lots of new and used inventory in stock.
