Tips to Save You Money #savingwithmisty

With prices as high as they are, if you are like me, you are having trouble making a budget and sticking to it.  Here are a handful of my tips I use to keep myself on track.

If I’m out running errands, I’ll make a drink and take it with me in a reusable tumbler so I’m not tempted to go the coffee shop or even through the drive through somewhere or a gas station and get a drink.

We cook for an army and there’s only two of us, so we eat the meal, then one meal the next day, and I break down what’s left into homemade tv dinners and freeze those so we have convenience meals that we know is in them.

If I receive a package with packing material in it, I will save the packing material. Depending on the type, there are so many uses for it. I run a home business so a bubble paper and brown paper gets repurposed into other packing material. Shredding can be used as a fire starter for those who have fireplaces, or bedding for those who have small animals.

Shopping bags become multi use. We have cats so they are used to scoop cat poop. We line our bathroom trash cans with them. Great for packing glass for storage, or even if you have to ship something in a pinch.  Great for cleaning our fridges and throwing out leftovers, or even sending people home with goodies.  Also great for beach trips, or any time you need to put wet or soiled clothing in a bag.

Staying organized. If you’re not organized, you’re more likely to impulse purchase because you can’t see what you have.  Get a notebook or make a spread sheet of everything you have on hand, and update it as you add or use stuff.

Always eat before going to the grocery store.  The hungrier you are, the more likely you are to mindlessly grab and buy because something looks good.  Also, write a list, and stick to the list.  Seriously, these two tips has saved us so much money on impulse purchases.

Always hit the clearance aisles, and check store brands.  Even if your normal brand is not in there, more than likely you will find a great alternative on sale.  One of the best kept secrets in the consumer industry is that those “no name” brands, more time than not, are the exact same brands as your name brands, just not branded and way cheaper.  If you’re worried about ingredients, just compared the ingredients.

A deep freezer will be your friend.  A lot of people forget about the value of a deep freezer.  When food is on sale, it’s best to stock up, but in order to do that, you have to have a place to put all your savings.  Invest into a deep freezer to rack up on all the savings.

These just a few of many tips I have to keep you on track to save money.  What are some of your tips?  Leave a comment below!
